Benno La Mode

Was at Millenia Walk last week for lunch with a friend and chanced upon a shop selling very nice flowery pieces in light chiffon. The style was very Blumarine - lots of floral, frills, laces and candy colours. It didn't occur to me that the designer is local.

We were served by the designer himself - Benno Asmoro, an Indonesian born Chinese based in Singapore. His designs are different from the usual typical safe designs our local designers do (ok, except for a few who are really outstanding, like alldressedup's Sven Tan). Both my friend and I were surprised when we first learned the designs were all locally designed!

However behind the colours and designs, I observed that the cut and workmanship (which includes the fabric) were not as good as expected. The designer told us the fabrics are from Japan, but I wasn't too impressed with the workmanship.

We did end up buying a top each. The prices are a little too expensive considering the fabric and cut but I thought this is something I can do to support our local designers.

(Oh yes, I just thought the brand Benno is too old fashioned... it seems like a brand one would find at OG. But do check it out his designs.)
