Years passed and Star Search is once again here. Somehow, the show has lost its shine, and expected winners were easily guessed.
I caught some parts of it while having dinner today, and feel a shame of our artistes. Most winners couldn't get their emotions under control, and speeches filled with "I thank my A,B,C,D...Z". I wonder, is there anything else they can talk about? Have they look at other award presentations and observe just how other artistes say their thank you speech?
There is no substance. Our Singaporean artistes are worlds apart from those overseas. Looks like besides acting, there is more they need to learn. It's only through constant learning and exposure that one can progress and learn, appreciate each show's character better, and thereby improving their acting skills. Many overseas artistes put in effort to understand the world, read widely to gain more exposure. That is why they have that star quality - it is that substance in them that makes them different.
