Beware of your own Signature!

Yes. Beware.

This is the story.

A friend signed for a registered post with her signature. The same signature she has record with the bank.

In the end, her money was transferred out from her bank account, and sent to a far away country in the name of her own, which she never did open.

And now it's a fraud case and is under investigation.

I'm sure many of us do have the habit of having the same signature for all our documents. But after this incident, I realise it's really important to stay vigilant at all times. You never know the background of anyone who serves you.

that's actually very strange luxe,
in UK we did completely the other way, we tried to keep every records the same (address, signature are some of them), because that's the way people here confirm you are the same individual. Well, no ID/IC card in this country... so when the bank pick up a phone call from me, they ask... dob, address, husband name, pet name, my fave colour, fave food, which serve me as my password :P Get one of them wrong... beep, try again.

Not too sure, but here in Singapore, we emphasize alot on signature. But there is no way one can countercheck with another organisation on the signature of a customer.

I understand there was other verification.. not too sure what exactly happened as I didn't want to probe further... But this really taught me a lesson. =)
