The Boss spoke to me.

I was at Bencoolen this afternoon for lunch.

The guy who served me was very helpful and courteous. Note that this wasn't any fanciful restaurant, but a small stall selling duck and chicken rice.

Just as I finished my meal, he came to clear my table and smiled.

"Today is going to be my last day as a worker. I am going to be a boss tomorrow."

He has just decided to take over a food stall at Henderson Industrial Park.

"My wife is very supportive of my decision. She wants me to improve myself and not always be a worker for others."

Just as he spoke, he showed me a passport size photograph of his 8 month old daughter, kept neatly in a plastic holder.

"I want to improve myself. I don't want to be an employee forever. Hopefully, I can succeed as a Boss."

I asked for his stall name so that should I be at Henderson someday, I can patronize his stall.

"Ji Mei" he says. "The name of my wife and child."

As we parted ways, I realised just how important the support of family members can be. It's the strength that helps one to persevere, to excel and dream big.

I wish his business well.
