Instructions: Garden Leave with immediate effect till end November. Then "Kiss My Ass and Say Goodbye".
13.11.2008 - the worst day of my life. The constant feeling of fear and uncertainty throughout the day, from 9am to 6pm, that my phone would ring with a familiar number paralysed me. And yet I had to still work professionally, attending to customers' queries, go for appointments and behaved as if nothing happened.
It was also the day I see how cruel a company can get, retrenching people with no specific basis. Some of those affected were consistent performers who have been with the bank for a long time. And ironically those who have been leeching on others have stayed on and stay unfazed. I cannot understand how would someone who sleeps in office or organises department social activities (as self-declared core job functions) can still remain unscathed.
Apparently, line managers or department heads were not sought for inputs. Perhaps they just threw the names and asked the computer to generate some names like a TOTO machine.
They said they would be transparent in everything they do. I doubt so. Look at what's been happening and what happened today. Everything is top to bottom. Very hierarchical and unfeeling.
This is so different from where I was from. I had experienced a retrenchment exercise in another bank I worked for previously. The approach was much more humane. The immediate supervisor had the letters, met up with the affected ones quickly so that those unaffected ones would not be left to wonder throughout the day.
And so, I say, F* Y*, Deep Blue Sea.
Table Cleared, by end day. Good Bye.

they told the investors to open their eyes big big. now they are telling you.
the pic makes me feel depressed all over again.
This is the cruel fact. Like what a comic strip depicted on the retrenchment actions, all employees are merely numbers to them.
Whatever it is, the people doing the retrenchment without any basis, they will have their fair share of retribution some day. They may be the Chairman or CEO or what not now, they cannot guarantee their descendants will forever be in control of their own career destiny. May God Bless Them.
