Rites, Cultures & Traditions - I hate you.

These few weeks have been very stressful.

Culture. Rites. Tradition.

It's killing me, because there's no end to it, and it is worse when the tradition is so different from the masses - it's created out from the sky, from one person.

Frankly, I'm perfectly fine with culture and tradition. It's a form of respect for the elders, but it has to be a common tradition - not something that is created by one sole person.

I still recall I used to be someone not very superstitious, until I got exposed to it. As it starts to eat into you, you become very handicapped by many things. Suddenly, you worry what if you do this, and you do that. Frankly, I hate it.

I miss those days when I was carefree and never bothered by all these rites. Because no one, so far, has been able to confirm that it's correct.

But now as I start to believe (because I'm starting to get used to it, exposed to it, although I hate it), telling me to just 'follow these rites to satisfy the rest' although I know it clearly that it's a wrong set of rites to follow is only going to make me feel worse.

And when will 'satisfying-the-elders' end? Even when the belief on the rites are no longer present, the act of it is still 'doing'. So when will it end? One thing after another, never-ending. So when will this stop?

So is 'suay' a word acceptable already? Can someone tell me? Can I say 'suay' to you anytime it suddenly pops up without fearing that you get superstitious again?

My principle on this is simple. Don't apply double standards just because it benefits you better this time. Not only would I lose trust on such a person, the respect is also gone with the wind. If one is to follow the culture, follow it the masses' way - what everyone has been doing. Ask the experts. If rites are those written by one person and to impose this on others in an uncompromising way is totally selfish.

People who impose their ways are very selfish human beings. There is only "I" in their dictionary. They do not believe in compromising - every way has to be THEIR way. So I wonder, what would be the basis of these rites then? It's obvious that they are for the benefit of themselves, not anyone else.

If by doing all these custom-made rites can make one rich, famous, healthy, lucky and fortunate, then why would there be people who fail in their career or business and interpersonal relationships? So far after following all these superstitions, has everything been successful and smooth-sailing, without ANY hiccup?

I've come to a point to realise I've been giving in too much and taken for granted. Each time when such a rule is commanded, I gave in.

Enough. I'm just going to break all the rules and live the life I want to be. It's my life, and my rights to what I want to do.

So for now, I'm going to bring back the word 'suay' and say it without fear, anytime I like it, and no one's going to stop me.

Suay Suay Suay Suay Suay!!

oh i see wat happened some. u know my rooms and toilets door frames are black, only the main door frame is white. i have black ceilings too. and my house faces a road junction (major function in fact for my area). with west sun. the elders also say not good but im not really superstitious so i didnt bother. i never even see fengshui one. just lead the way u want your life to be, its yours! some people/rituals/behaviours can be extremely superflous, really. and now number 4 is somewhat my lucky number too. ha!

Don't fret. Surely there are more important things than those time wasting traditions that you don't agree.Just pretend.
