People say when a couple gets married, while it concerns two families, most importantly, is the union of two lovers to form a separate family unit.
This family unit is unique, special with a combination of beliefs brought in by the two original families the couple came from - what I always call "A Team", or a "Corporation".
This special Team has its own specially created sets of rules, belief systems they live by, and should not be interfered by any one of the two original families. Imagine 2 Mother Companies always interfering with the operations of their subsidiary!
Occasionally when this Team requires extraordinary advise, they can always fall back on either of the 2 Mother Companies, but never the other way round. It is important to allow this subsidiary to grow by themselves and emerge, eventually - a unique mother company of its own in the future.
And as this team grows with additional family members, more principles are set in place. The couple - still maintains their individual positions on the 'Board', instill their own culture and principles to the newcomers (children), and guide them as they grow up to be independent.
Imagine when any of the Mother Company interferes with the growing of this Subsidiary by insisting its ways. This creates friction and unhappiness to the two Board of Directors, and may even extinguish their passion to grow this unique team according to their own beliefs as a couple. Therefore, it is extremely important that whenever the 2 Board of Directors sense any interference, to quickly deflect it and protect the interest of this growing Team - after all, it is fragile and needs lots of attention since it's new.
Rather than expecting the 2 Mother Companies to be 'automatic' and not interfere, it makes more sense for the 2 Board of Directors to inform their own Mother Company that they are coping well, thank you.
So if you happen to be forming your own unique Team, please remember to exercise this belief - priority is always given to this TEAM. No one else, no matter how closely linked to this team, should be allowed to interfere the operations of this Team. By protecting each other as a Team, it bonds each other strongly and this bond will guide them well down the road of the marriage in many years to come.
Otherwise once the wrong footing is set, not only changing the course will be extremely difficult, it will also be very painful.
