Am kinda impressed with mom's comments about some recent remarks following Mrs Lee's death on whether there are any more of such supportive wives in Singapore. (Well, I always thought mom's a housewife, so what she knows right?)
Her reply was exactly what I'd been saying 'it takes two'. A woman can only truly show her supportive side if her man allows her too. No woman can continue to be supportive if her man is an MCP and always thinks his ideas and decisions are the best.
What would Singapore have become if SM Lee insisted his way and not listened to his wife about adding females into the Party? Or that he shoos her away each time when she makes a comment simply because he is a Country Ruler while she is only a lawyer? It was his genteel side that brought out the supportive nature in her, giving her the confidence to continue contributing her thoughts and views about anything - both family and country.
Nothing is successful without efforts from both sides in any relationship.
Any.
